Kisa · 喫茶 · the tea house

Every bag is stamped by hand.

Kisa is a husband-and-wife tea shop in Phoenix, Arizona. Our name comes from 喫茶, the old Japanese word for a neighborhood tea house: a place to sit down, slow down, and have one good cup.

She's Japanese, we live in the desert, and every blend is a little of both: Japanese tea traditions, Arizona character, and a lot of tasting at the kitchen table. Nothing ships until she approves it. Then each bag gets her red seal and a lot number, written by hand.

一期一会 — this moment only happens once.

How to brew

1

Measure

One heaping teaspoon per cup, into an infuser or straight into the pot.

2

Pour

Just-off-the-boil water for all three blends.

3

Wait

First Light 3–4 minutes. Golden Hour and Lamplight 5–7. Longer is fine; they won't turn bitter.

4

Keep

Our bags are refills. Move your tea into an airtight tin or jar to keep it fresh.

Questions

How many cups are in a bag?

About 15–20 cups per bag at one heaping teaspoon each. A Mitsu set makes about 50.

Which blends have caffeine?

Only No. 01 First Light. Golden Hour and Lamplight are naturally caffeine-free.

Why don't the bags reseal?

They're refill pouches, the way tea has traditionally been sold in Japan. Keep your tea in an airtight tin or jar.

Where do you ship?

Anywhere in the US. Orders are packed by hand in Phoenix and ship within 1–2 business days.
